Unlike fake lashes that come in a strip, these are applied one single lash at a time onto your natural lash. The lash extension will never be attached to your skin or your eyelid, so it will naturally follow the growth and bloom of your own lashes. They enhance the volume and length of your natural lashes so you are able to wake up and go without mascara but have the look as if you put some on.
What is the difference between the Classic lash, Hybrid & Volume lashes?
Classic lashes- A method where 1 lash extension is glued to 1 natural lash (i.e. 100 natural lashes = 100 lash extensions). Usually a thicker extension (0.10-0.20) since there is only one attached. Classic lashes are perfect for clients who already have a lot of lashes, but want to add more length. Classic lashes look more natural. Volume lashes- When multiple lashes are applied to one single natural eyelash individually isolating one natural eyelash at a time. Very thin extensions (0.03-0.07mm) are created into a fan of 2D-10D lashes and applied to one single lash (i.e 100 natural lashes = 200-500 extensions). Good for clients that want extra drama and fullness! Hybrid lashes- A mixture of both Classic & Volume method to create a look in between natural and dramatic.
What are the different types of eyelash extensions?
Each lash artist and salon has their own preference so this can vary depending on where you go. The different types of lash extensions you can get are Faux Mink, Mink, Silk and Synthetic which all have different lengths, widths and curls. The main difference between them comes down to their firmness, are they real fur, faux fur or are they synthetic.
How long will a full set of eyelash extensions last?
Eyelash extensions will typically last the length of the natural growth of your own lashes and fall out when they shed. Like all hair on the human body, your eyelashes grow in stages (Anagen, Catagen, Telogen). It is normal to lose 1-6 natural lashes per day which is why a fill is recommended every 2-3 weeks, if you like a fuller look I suggest to clients to get fills every 2 weeks regularly. Please click the lash extension after care tab on how to properly care for your eyelash extensions to maximize longevity!
Can I sleep normally, shower, swim, exercise, visit a spa while wearing lash extensions?
I highly recommend that you keep your lash extensions out of water for the first 24 hours after any of your lash services to let the lashes and glue properly bond. After that 24 hour period the glue and extensions ARE waterproof so you are able to get right back to your routine with showering, swimming etc. If you are getting a facial, massage or during sleeping make sure you don't lay directly on lashes and be gentle. When sleeping I suggest to lay on your side or back but if you are used to sleeping on your stomach I would suggest to purchase a concave eye mask to protect lashes from falling out.
I wear contacts, will that be a problem?
Not at all, you'll be fine having contacts in when having lash extensions. The adhesive will never touch your skin so there will be no precautions or worries after you get your lash extensions. Some clients do prefer to take them out before their service but that is completely up to you.
Will lash extensions ruin my natural lashes or make them fall out?
Not if you go to an experienced lash technician, this is one of those lash "myths". Every hair on your body has a shed cycle so regardless if you have extensions on your lash or not they will naturally shed about 1-6 per day and this is normal. Please also keep in mind once you have extensions removed you will most likely feel as if you “lost lashes” but when you go from having longer, fuller lashes then back your normal lashes that you haven’t seen in months or years, that can also explain why it may look that way. However, going to an unexperienced lash artist who doesn't apply the correct weight on your natural lash or uses too much glue can cause multiple natural lashes to be glued together. Which will result in damage to the natural hair follicle since it's being pulled out prematurely of the growth cycle, so please do your research!
Can I wear mascara & makeup with my lash extensions?
NO I would not recommend any client to use mascara since it closes up the lashes causing them to clump, but there is mascara on the market formulated for extensions so it's easier to take off unlike normal mascara. If you absolutely have to use mascara for an event or whatever reason then I recommended you use one that is lash extension safe sparingly on the tips of lashes. NEVER use waterproof mascara, eyelash strips over extensions (you would be surprised what i've seen) or an oil based eyeliner since it will be nearly impossible to get off. To be honest, if you want the best retention and your moneys worth then I would keep your lashes clean of mascara!
How do I clean my lash extensions?
After each service i'll give you a lash wand to take home that I advise clients to brush through AM & PM, which can help clean out any debris from the day etc. I have soft eye brushes and Prolong cleanser that I sell at my salon. I HIGHLY recommend cleaning your lashes DAILY if you wear makeup or eye shadow, mainly just at LEAST 4x times a week to keep your extensions and natural lashes healthy, and clean of your natural oils which can break down the extension glue. (I highly recommend Prolong Cleanser which I have available to purchase in the salon). -Everyone is different, but here are some ways I recommend to cleanse your lashes: Use a light brush with a little cleanser and water on it to gently brush down on the extensions, after you wash with water let them dry naturally or use a mini fan with no heat on low, don’t forget to brush through your lashes AFTER they dry especially if you have volume to open the fans up.
How are lash extensions removed?
There are a few different methods to taking extensions off like banana peeling especially for fills, but in the case you need a full set of lash extensions off, most salons offer a service to have the extensions fully removed involving an appointment. An eye pad is placed on your lower lashes while the gel extension remover is applied on top of the extensions without touching the skin and allowed to sit for 10 minutes. Once the adhesive is dissolved the extensions are wiped away pain free with lint free applicators exposing the natural lashes with no damage. Do not remove the lash extensions yourself by pulling on them or cutting which will damage your natural lashes.
Do you need to be licensed to be a Lash Artist?
Only licensed Estheticians or Cosmetologists should be applying lashes, as well as completing a lash extension certification course. Make sure your technician is licensed with the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. If you do not see the license, ask. If the technician does not have the required licensure, leave for your own safety.
